#CoronavirusinSA: South Africans should start wearing cloth masks: Mkhize

Health Minister Zweli Mkhize has urged South Africans to wear clothes masks to curb the spreading of COVID-19.

So far, the country has confirmed 2003 positive cases, while 24 people have lost their lives.

 

The minister said wearing cloth masks is crucial as it has yielded positive results in Korea and Japan.

 

“We want to recommend now much more widespread use of masks and in this case, we are recommending that people can use cloth masks,” said Mkhize.

 

The minister addressed the media on Friday, saying these cloth masks must be three-layered and individuals and businesses are permitted to make and sell the masks.

 

“We would like to reserve the specialised masks, the N95 respirator masks, surgical masks, for people who deal with intense infections in hospitals,” says the minister.

 

#CoronavirusinSA Death toll rises to 24

Just more than two weeks into the national COVID-19 lockdown, it has also been confirmed that 410 have recovered from the virus. The latest stats where release by the Minister of Health, Zweli Mkhize, on Friday afternoon. The minister also revealed that the number of people who tested positive has increased to 2003, while 73 028 tests have been conducted.
