The department has confirmed that 152 inmates and eight officials have tested positive for the virus at the facility in Caledon.
Spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo says the department is doing everything in its power to curb the spread of the virus.
“Key at this point is to wrap up infection prevention control across all entrances and offices, passages in that particular facility.
“We have also sanitised our officials and those residing within our premises and to ensure that they are cognisant of all protocols that are there to prevent an outbreak of Covid-19.”
The department says its total cumulative cases at facilities across the country stands at 9 554 with 8 319 recoveries.
