Cosatu calls on ANC to address internal challenges
Updated | By Pieter van der Merwe
Cosatu has called on the ANC-led tripartite alliance to address internal challenges following the party's performance at the recent municipal polls.
The trade union federation briefed the media on Thursday following its Central Executive Committee meeting.
Cosatu's General Secretary, Bheki Ntshalintshali, said the ANC needs to rid itself of, amongst others, factionalism and corruption.
"It is undeniable that the voters are unhappy with the way the leadership of our movement handled the Nkandla matter, including the constitutional judgment on the report by the Public Protector. They are unhappy with the economic corporatism, corruption, political and bureaucratic arrogance, including factionalism, that has left the ANC paralysed," he said.
Ntshalintshali said the elected leadership needs to acknowledge that the buck stops with them and needs to respond to the direct message from the voters.
Meanwhile, Cosatu has cautioned all workers - specifically municipal workers - to prepare for battles after the recent municipal election outcomes where the DA has taken over in a number of major metros.
Ntshalintshali warned that the DA could target workers.
"The DA's anti-worker and anti-union policies automatically means that we can expect them to unleash a war against the workers and purge many of them from the municipalities that they have won," he said.
