Cosatu probing claims of sexual harassment at national congress
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
Cosatu has launched an investigation into claims of sexual harassment at its national congress in Midrand.
The trade union federation‘s four-day congress began on Monday with close to 2,000 delegates in attendance.
It is alleged that the incident took place in a hotel on Monday.
Cosatu spokesperson Sizwe Pamla says a team has been appointed to investigate the details.
"We only received reports late evening on Tuesday, it was media reports. We were not aware of any arrests. This morning the leadership decided to appoint a team of individuals to go to the police station and find out who is the person that has been arrested.
“According to CEPPWAWU, there is a shop steward of theirs who they believe is the person that has been arrested yesterday. But the team that has been entrusted with the responsibility of investigating that case has not come back to report to congress.”
“The other issue is that this is a criminal case so we can only find out the facts and allow the police to do their work.
“We don't have all the facts yet, but the task team will find out who are the involved parties, what happened, all we hear is that this happened at one of the hotels that were booked by one of our affiliates."
