Cosatu takes to the streets
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
Cosatu took to the streets of Johannesburg on Friday morning as part of International Day for Decent Work.
Workers handed over a memorandum to Johannesburg mayor Herman Mashaba.
They also plan on marching to the offices of Finance MEC Barbara Creecy and the Chamber of Mines.
Cosatu General Secretary Bheki Ntshalitshali said free higher education is one of the items on the agenda.
"Should government be willing, what they need to do is to propose a legislation. Hear what business people and workers are saying. Find out if they can make a contribution. If that happens, free education is possible in our lifetime," Ntshalintshali said.
They marched to MEC for Transport, Ismail Vadi's office, where teacher's union Sadtu's General Secretary Mugwena Maluleke called for e-tolls to be scrapped.
"They don't listen to us. Today, comrade Vadi, tell the workers that the e-tolls will be scrapped tomorrow," Maluleke said.
