Cosatu welcomes digital migration directive
Updated | By Sinethemba Madolo
The Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) has welcomed the decision by the ANC and says the migration to digital broadcasting is long overdue.
On Wednesday a deadline was set for the government to complete the migration process from analogue to digital broadcasting.
It also directed Parliament to set up an inquiry into the feasibility of a media appeals tribunal.
The ruling party further resolved that government should ensure that the telecoms and pay television sectors are transformed.
Cosatu's spokesperson, Sizwe Pamla, says what is surprising is that ministers have been refusing to implement ANC policies.
Pamla says that when it comes to Information and communications technology (ICT) South Africa has been lacking.
He also remarked on the resolution that there will be immediate investigation into corruption, collusion in both the private and public sectors.
Pamla says they are happy that the ANC resolved to reflect on matters of corruption.
Pamla says South Africa needs the issue of state capture to be resolved in order to build trust with current and future investors.
