The High Court in Johannesburg has convicted Gerhard Jansen van Vuuren of murder for stabbing his girlfriend Andrea Venter to death in December 2011.

Van Vuuren was extradited from Brazil by the South African government after being on the run for seven years.
He fled the country in 2013, just days before standing trial for murdering his ex-lover outside her home in Johannesburg.
He was rearrested in June 2020 in Brazil and extradited back to South Africa.
He was further convicted on charges of assault for assaulting a security officer who was on guard duty on the day of the incident.
The case was postponed to 27 July for sentencing.
