Ntuthuko Shoba, who appear in court on Friday, is accused of orchestrating the murder of his 8-month pregnant girlfriend.

“The applicant has not shown that he will stand trial. He relied on an affidavit which states the bare minimum,” said magistrate Denise Smith as she handed down her ruling.

"The interests of justice, especially public interest, is not sufficient why he should be released on bail.

"The strength of the case is also mentioned. The state’s case need not be proved beyond a reasonable doubt at this stage, but the applicant does not state what he is pleading - whether he is guilty or not guilty although he has the right to remain silent.

"The mere say-so that the applicant will not skip the country is not enough," she added.

"The court must find that there is a probability that the applicant will not stand his trial.”

Shoba, who is a JSE analyst, was arrested a week ago after he was implicated by the man whom he allegedly hired to kill Pule.

Muzikayise Malephane implicated Shoba after reaching a plea and sentencing agreement with the state.

Shoba is facing charges of premeditated murder, conspiracy to commit murder and defeating the ends of justice.

He remains in custody until his next court appearance on March 25 when the indictment is expected to be transferred to the high court.
