Court dismisses Malema's bid to declare 'apartheid act' unconstitutional

The high court in Pretoria has dismissed an application by Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) to have the Riotous Assemblies Act declared unconstitutional.
The apartheid-era law was used to charge party leader Julius Malema after AfriForum laid charges of incitement of violence.

The lobby group laid the charges against Malema after encouraged his supporters to occupy land in Bloemfontein in 2014 as well as in Newcastle in 2016.
Malema told the media after the judgment was handed down that the ruling was a victory for the EFF as it allows them to approach the Constitutional Court.
