Court dismisses Ninow bid to appeal conviction, sentence

Civil rights organisation #NotInMyName has described the application by convicted child rapist Nicholas Ninow to appeal his conviction and sentence as a waste of taxpayers’ money.
The High Court in Pretoria dismissed Ninow's application for leave to appeal on Tuesday.
Ninow applied for leave to appeal both his conviction and sentence, arguing that the previous judgment erred in finding that the crime was premeditated.
This is despite originally entering a guilty plea on charges of rape, defeating the ends of justice and being in possession of an illegal substance.

The court found that there are no reasonable prospects of success.
The organisation’s Themba Masango says they are satisfied with the judgment.
"We feel the court is vindicated in the decision it took today to say that Nicholas Ninow has no foot to stand on legally to think that a different court would arrive at a different version.
"We are really happy that the honourable court has come into the conclusion that they are dismissing the appeal. We feel this was a real waste of taxpayers’ money and of time and resources of the court.”
