Court grants interdict against ‘braaiing’ Midrand protestors

The High Court in Johannesburg has granted an interdict to Munyaka Residents Association and Balwin Properties amid protests by angry residents.
The residents from Munyaka Estate in Midrand are unhappy about power outages in the area.
The area has been without power since Sunday.
The protest, which began on Thursday, saw residents blocking the entrance to the building while braaiing and playing music during an all-day protest.
“Our best efforts to explain that the root cause of the problem is due to Eskom's infrastructure were ignored and unreasonable demands were made,” said Balwin Properties CEO Steve Brookes.
“In order to protect the civil rights and interests of all homeowners, the Munyaka Residents Association and Balwin successfully obtained an urgent interdict against the illegal behaviour.
“Further, we want to caution anyone who has taken to social media and other platforms to defame and cause reputational harm to Balwin and Munyaka by spreading false and misleading information. We are in the process of collecting information and we will be proceeding with legal action against these individuals.”
