Court gives green light to attach former NLC chair’s Rolls Royce

The Special Investigating Unit has obtained a preservation order to freeze properties and luxury cars linked to the former National Lotteries Commission.

The assets include those of the commission’s former board chairperson, Professor Alfred Nevhutanda.
The High Court in Pretoria ordered the preservation of four properties in Polokwane and Makhado in Limpopo and three luxury cars, including a Rolls-Royce Phantom, with a combined value of about R14 million.
In June last year, the SIU obtained a preservation order for Nevhutanda’s Waterkloof property valued at R27 million.
The preservation order prevents the accused from selling or transferring the properties.
"Therefore, all the property mentioned above represents the proceeds of unlawful activity as provided for in the Prevention of Organised Crime Act. Once forfeited, the property will be sold on public auction, and the NLC compensated for their losses," said SIU spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago.
The Rolls-Royce, which is valued at R6.3 million, was purchased by Nevhutanda in 2016.
The car was registered in the name of Malwandla Solly Siweya, also known as Rirhandzu Siweya, who is a former NLC board member also linked to fraud and corruption at the entity.
