Court: Gumede did not deliberately violate bail conditions

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has confirmed that embattled former eThekwini mayor Zandile Gumede did not deliberately violate her bail conditions.

Gumede appeared in the Durban Magistrates Court on Friday.
Her court appearance follows raids conducted by the Assets Forfeiture Unit (AFU) and the Hawks on Gumede's rented house in Umhlanga on Thursday, where it was found that she did not occupy the house.
Gumede was later found at her home in Inanda.
NPA spokesperson Natasha Kara says the court heard that Gumede had previously advised her attorney of her updated residential address, but attorney forgot to mention it to the court.
"The court accepted the version of the accused and the attorney," says Kara.
The raids formed part of an investigation into Gumede and her co-accused that relates to allegations of corruption during an R208 million rand waste collection tender in 2016.
Gumede and her co-accused, who are currently out on bail, face charges of fraud, corruption and money laundering.
She is expected back in court in January.
