Court hears application to suspend Abrahams
Updated | By Maryke Vermaak
A full bench of High Court judges will hear an application in Pretoria to compel President Jacob Zuma to suspend NPA boss Shaun Abrahams.
This is a joint application by the Helen Suzman Foundation and Freedom Under Law.
The application also calls for President Zuma to suspend Dr Torie Pretorius and Advocate Sibongile Mzinyathi, pending an inquiry into their fitness to hold office.
According to the organisations, the application come after charges were laid - and then later withdrawn - against Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan and former SARS employees Ivan Pillay and Oupa Magashula, which had a negative effect on the economy.
The organisations approached President Zuma and he indicated he would make a decision by 21 November 2016.
In the meantime, President Zuma has written to Abrahams, Pretorius and Mzinyathi asking them to provide reasons why they should not be suspended.
They have until Monday to do so.
The judges will decide if the application is urgent this morning.
