Court to rule on Wild Coast seismic blasting on Friday
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
A court will hand down judgement in an application to put the brakes on Shell's seismic survey plans on Friday.
Four environmental groups and law firm Cullinan and Associates filed urgent papers in the Eastern Cape High Court on Wednesday.
They argued that the ocean blasting project, off the Wild Coast, could cause irreparable harm to the marine environment, especially to the Humpback whales that will be migrating.
But the oil and gas giant said it spent millions to start the survey on 1 December and conducted its own research worldwide, which showed no cause for environmental concern.
