Court sends Vicki Momberg back to jail

Convicted racist Vicki Momberg will spend the night behind bars after a judge at the Randburg Magistrates Court ruled against an application to release her from police custody.

Momberg was rearrested on Wednesday after she handed herself over to authorities.

A warrant of arrest was issued in August after Momberg failed to report to court.

Authorities then directed their efforts to tracking the former estate agent after they failed to locate her at both addresses listed under her name.

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Gauteng spokesperson Phindi Mjondondwane confirmed that her legal representative argued that the former estate agent had been wrongfully arrested.

According to Mjondondwane, her legal counsel expressed concern that she had not been furnished with a copy of the warrant prior to her arrest.

"She brought an application that the warrant of arrest that was issued against her by the Randburg court was prematurely issued.

"The court ruled that the warrant of arrest was in fact lawfully issued and therefore dismissed her application.

The court ruled against the application and ordered her to served the remainder of the two-year sentence previously imposed on her.

"She has since been taken into custody to start serving the remainder of her sentence,” says Mjondondwane.

Momberg was convicted of crimen injuria in 2017 after she was caught on video using the k-word 48 times following a smash-and-grab incident the previous year.
