Court sentences rapist to 30 years behind bars

A 41-year-old man has been sentenced to an effective 30 years behind bars for raping and robbing a teenager in February 2013.
Police spokesperson FC van Wyk said the Worcester Magistrate’s Court handed down the sentence on Tuesday.
The man was sentenced to 25 years in prison for rape and 15 years on the charge of robbery of which 10 years will serve concurrently with the rape sentence.
Van Wyk said the 13-year-old girl was on her way home from school when the man forced her into a yard at Houmoed in Rawsonville and raped her.
“The suspect was arrested by the police and bail was successfully opposed for the duration of the trial”, he said.
