The Booysens Magistrates’ Court sentenced Abel Moabelo to 15 years imprisonment for tampering and theft of essential infrastructure.
The National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson in Gauteng, Phindi Mjonondwana, says Moabelo’s actions disrupted basic services in Bassonia.
"Moabelo had unlawfully and intentionally tampered with the electrical box and further removed electrical fuses. One fuse was found on him, and the other two he had disposed of in the streets, which were picked up by the community policing forum.
"The accused actions caused interference and disruption to basic services in the area. The police were called to the scene of the crime, and Moabelo was arrested.”
Mjonondwana says Moabelo pleaded guilty to all charges.
