‘Courts mustn’t show sympathy to those who are playing' - Mabuyane
Updated | By Nathan Daniels
Outgoing ANC Eastern Cape chairperson Oscar Mabuyane says he hopes the judgment handed down against a disgruntled group of ANC supporters will serve as a deterrent.
The East London High Court dismissed the application by ANC members from the Doctor WB Rubusana region.
The applicants sought to prevent the delegates from that region participating at the party's provincial election conference in East London.
They alleged that the main application, ventilating the claims of manipulation of party membership at general meetings in the region, prevented the delegates from participating.
The court rejected the notion adding that no ruling has been made in the main application and that the applicants could not show any urgency.

Mabuyane hopes the judgment will serve as a deterrent to ANC members approaching the courts over frivolous matters.
“We welcome the court judgment, and we believe it’s sending a clear message to everyone that this is a conference that must sit with branches of the ANC, giving a chance to fairly participate.
"It is unfortunate that we are using all the technicalities to muzzle out or exclude some branches of the ANC.”
The provincial elective conference is expected to close on Monday.
