Covid-19 cases at Mediclinic Morningside rise sharply

Mediclinic Morningside in Sandton remains closed for new admissions following a further rise in confirmed cases of Covid-19.

The hospital group says 90 people have now tested positive for coronavirus at the facility.
"Close to 1000 staff members, allied health professionals, supporting staff and doctors have been tested, with the majority of these (90%) returning negative results,” says the group’s CEO Dr. Stefan Smuts.

In total 37 healthcare workers, 33 supporting staff members, 11 patients, and nine allied health professionals have tested positive for the coronavirus.
"To ensure the absolute safety of our patients, doctors and, staff, the decision was taken to extend the period of closure for new admissions as part of our containment plan until 27 April,” Smuts adds.
All staff who tested positive have been isolated and quarantined and will only be allowed back at work once they are cleared of the virus.
