Covid-19 cases in SA remain steady on lower levels

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) has reported 1 436 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24-hour reporting cycle.
The new cases have remained steadily below the 2 000 mark for over a week.
According to the latest statistics released on Tuesday evening, show that the positivity rate has also stayed on the same level as the day before – standing at 5.5%.
Gauteng recorded 505 new cases on Tuesday.
“The majority of new cases today are from Gauteng (35%), followed by Western Cape (23%). Kwa-Zulu Natal accounted for 18%; Eastern Cape accounted for 6%; North West accounted for 5%; Free State and Mpumalanga each accounted for 4% respectively; Limpopo accounted for 3%; and Northern Cape accounted for 2% of today’s new cases,” says the NICD in a statement.
The National Department of Health has reported another backlog of Covid-19 mortality cases, due to the ongoing audit exercise by the department.
It has reported 16 deaths and of these, there were no new deaths in the past 24 - 48 hours.
This brings the total fatalities to 99 625.
There has been an increase of 46 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours with 2 478 people currently admitted in both private and public health facilities.
