Covid-19 death toll continues to increase sharply in the Eastern Cape

The Eastern Cape Province continues to record an increase in the number of Covid-19 deaths.
According to the latest statistics released by Health Minister, Zweli Mkhize, the province recorded an additional 36 Covid-19 related fatalities, bringing the total number of fatalities in the Eastern Cape to 4 122.
Gauteng has recorded 42 additional deaths, with the total virus related fatalities in South Africa’s economic hub now standing at 4931.

In the Free State, 22 more people succumbed to the virus, while the Western Cape recorded 11 more deaths, Kwa-Zulu Natal recorded 7 deaths and Mpumalanga confirmed one related fatality.
The number of new Covid-19 cases recorded in just one day stands at 1 987, bringing the number of cumulative cases in the country to 754 256.
South Africa’s recovery rate is at 92.4%.
