Covid-19 deaths keep showing sharp increases in SA

South Africa has recorded 523 new Covid-19 related deaths in the last 24 hours, bringing the total fatalities to 71 431.

The latest stats by the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) show 13 751 new Covid-19 cases.
The NICD says the increase represents a 24.6% positivity rate, with 55 923 tests conducted on Thursday.
So far, the country has a total of 2 422 151 laboratory-confirmed cases.
Western Cape province is leading with 3 968 new cases recorded on Thursday, followed by Gauteng with 3 655 new cases.
There has been an increase of 598 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours, a decrease from the previous day.
A total of 15 964 people are currently admitted in both private and public facilities.
On the vaccine front, 215 066 vaccines were administered on Thursday.
