Covid-19 in Gauteng: Confirmed cases on 1952, more recoveries

The number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Gauteng is inching towards the 2 000 mark.

The provincial health department released the latest batch of statistics on Monday, with Gauteng number of confirmed cases now at 1952.


 


There are also 1305 recoveries and 22 fatalities, according to the department.


 


A total of 59 people are receiving treatment in public and private hospitals around the province.


 


Johannesburg still the epicentre of the outbreak with 1079 confirmed cases and 838 recoveries.


 


The department's Kwara Kekana says 7786 people have completed their mandatory period under quarantine.


 


"Out of a total of 9486 contacts traced, 7786 people have completed the 14 days monitoring period with no symptoms reported and therefore they are de-isolated.”


 


West Rand still has the lowest number of confirmed cases with 61, combined with 36 recoveries.


 


The number of Covid-19 cases in Johannesburg went from 1057 to 1079, while Ekurhuleni recorded an increase from 426 to 435 and Tshwane from 283 to 285.
