Covid-19 positivity rate falls further

The daily positivity rate of new Covid-19 cases in South Africa, continues to decline a day after scientists said we could already be over the worst of the fifth wave.

Statistics released by the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) on Wednesday evening show that the country’s positivity rate stands at 17.3%.

 

Gauteng and the Western Cape are the two provinces that continue to drive the most Covid-19 infections.

 

The number of new coronavirus cases recorded in a 24-hour period is at 5 284 for Wednesday.

Fatalities related to Covid-19 have also shown an increase of 41 in a 24-48 hour period. 

 

This brings the country’s total number of Covid-19 related infections to 101 043.

 

On Wednesday, the National Institute for Communicable Diseases told the media that South Africa could possibly be moving over the curve of the fifth wave, with cases showing a continuous decline.
