President Cyril Ramaphosa believes the country’s economic recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic is “pregnant with great opportunity”.

Ramaphosa made the comments on Tuesday at the Infrastructure South Africa Project Preparations Roundtable and Marketplace.
“The post Covid-19 reconstruction and recovery phase is a phase and period which is pregnant with great possibility which is full of promise and opportunity.
“For South Africa, it is an opportunity to establish ourselves as an investment destination of choice, with a ready and able workforce.”
Over the next four years, government hopes to unlock R1 trillion in infrastructure investment.

Ramaphosa says a significant part of achieving this will be through the national infrastructure fund.
Government has also managed to identify 276 projects with a total investment value of more than R2.7 trillion, through the infrastructure development symposium which took place in June.
Government has since gazetted 50 of these Strategic Integrated Projects with a value of R340 billion.
