City Power has confirmed the arrest of one suspect after he was found with cables belonging to the utility in Alexandra.
The man was apprehended by the Alexandra Community Policing Forum patrollers on Wednesday.
He was later handed over to the Bramley police.
"Our teams are at the police stations to do identity of the cables; we commend the work done by patrollers, residents in Alexandra and the police who are fighting against the cable theft in area," said City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena.
"However, we are still worried that we still experiencing a high number of incidents of cable theft and vandalism across the city which is very worrying for us.
"This shows that the leading cause of outages that we deal with daily is due to cable theft and vandalism, and being on higher stages of load shedding means that we will have bear the brunt of more incidents of theft as they take advantage of load shedding."
