Credentials adopted at ANC conference
Updated | By Pieter van der Merwe
African National Congress (ANC) deputy secretary general Jessie Duarte has confirmed that credentials
have been adopted at the party's national
conference in Nasrec, south of Johannesburg

The credentials were adopted on Sunday morning, more than 20 hours later than scheduled.
However, Duarte says there is nothing unusual about the delays.
''It's not unusual to delay credentials.
''We do it for the credibility of the process, as we all know, this is the one point that people use to have court interdicts and we been extremly careful not to open any possibility that will take us in that direction.''
The provincial executive committee (PEC) members in KwaZulu-Natal and Free State, who are not branch members, will not be allowed to vote.
Fourteen branches in the Free State and North West have also been excluded following Friday’s court judgements.
Duarte also tried to quell suspicions of allegations that bogus delegates recieved credentials.
She said there has been an inflated number of voting delegates, instead the number is much less than expected because of the court cases in three provinces barring some members of the ANC from participating at the conference.
''There was no inflation whatsoever of the numbers [in credentials] ... instead of having the component of voting delegates which could've been over 5000 ... we now stand at approximately 4700, so its lower than the number that should've been there to vote.''
The number delegates at the conference stand at 4,776.
To win the election, a candidate needs 2,389 votes.
