A number of schools in Winterveld have been hit by armed robbers, including Philemon Montsho Primary School and St Josephs Kulani Primary School.

Makhura visited Philemon Montsho Primary School in Winterveld, northwest of Pretoria on Thursday where a group of armed robbers fled with electronics, furniture and stationery.

Makhura described the situation at the school as disheartening.

"The community here has complained too many times that criminals are on a holiday here, they are on a rampage, they are not feeling the full might of the law.

"We can't allow criminals to terrorise our communities and destroy the infrastructure we have."

The premier called on law enforcement to take active measures to curb the level of criminal activity.

"I want results about arrests of those who are perpetrators of this. I also want results about visibility of police action."

Schools in the East Rand have also not been spared.

On Wednesday pupils from Khutlo-Tharo Secondary School in Sebokeng were sent home after the administrative block at the school was ravaged by flames in a suspected arson attack.
