Crocodile pulls sleeping camper from tent in northern Australia

A crocodile has attacked a camper in northern Australia, pulling him out of his tent by his foot as he slept early Monday, an official said.

The 19-year-old man “will remain in the hospital tonight and we hope to talk to him soon. He is in stable condition,” a health department spokeswoman told dpa.
Saltwater crocodiles are common around river systems and water holes in the Northern Territory of Australia, despite hundreds being removed, mostly near towns, by officials in recent years.
The victim had set up camp 15 metres from a river during a fishing trip with his family in the Daly region, news reports said.
After his right foot was grabbed, he “somehow or other managed to kick the croc away with his other foot,” an official told the Australian edition of the Guardian.
This is the third attack this year in the region. - dpa
