DA calls for early elections amid fallout from Phala Phala report

The Democratic Alliance says President Cyril Ramaphosa and the government have lost the mandate and ability to govern.

Party leader John Steenhuisen has held a briefing on the steps his party will take to hold Ramaphosa after an independent panel found that he has a case to answer in the Phala Phala scandal.
"Because he and his party have lost the mandate of the voters, we have to turn to our Constitution and the provision it makes for a situation like this,” he said on Thursday.
"We cannot leave it up to 4 000 bribed and compromised delegates at an ANC conference to choose the future of our country. That choice has to be made by all the people of South Africa in an early election."
This while Minister in the Presidency Mondli Gungubele said President is “fine” and will comment on the report in due course.
He says Ramaphosa is still studying it.
"It appears that this has not gone right maybe an elaborate exercise to check to lead to something. So prima facie is not a conclusive finding on anything. It is an indication that there is a need to clarify certain things."
