DA to challenge Dudu Myeni's SAA reappointment in court
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
The Democratic Alliance (DA) on Monday said it would seek a court order setting aside the reappointment of Dudu Myeni as the Chairperson of the Board of South African Airways (SAA).
Cabinet's announced on Friday that Myeni was reappointed in the position, alongside 11 other board members.
DA leader Mmusi Maimane told the media at a press briefing in Parliament that the party believes there is a prima facie case to be made that Myeni's reappointment by Cabinet is irrational, given her poor performance as SAA Board Chairperson over the past four years.
"Her reappointment not only reeks of nepotism and cronyism so common under the Zuma administration, but it also flies in the face of the need for good governance at State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), especially SAA, which is in financial ruins - failing to make a profit for several years - and a whisker away from being liquidated," Maimane said.
Maimane said they have instructed their legal team to begin with the legal action, and the process of serving papers will take its course during the next few days, with the application to follow in the Western Cape High Court.
