DA: This is Gauteng's own Nkandla

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Gauteng plans to picket on Monday, outside the house that African National Congress (ANC) Gauteng Chief Whip Brian Hlongwa bought for R 7.2 million.

This comes after allegations that Hlongwa bought the property with the financial assistance of companies and individuals who benefitted from corrupt activities with the Gauteng Health Department when Hlongwa was MEC for Health between 2006 and 2009.

DA's Shadow MEC for Health in the province, Jack Bloom, says the picket is to highlight the fact that the case has not been to court.

"There has been no accountability for it, we need to make sure justice has been done," says Bloom.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) applied for an asset forfeiture order against this house in July 2014 as a suspected proceed of crime.

Bloom says the alleged house Hlongwa bought for R 7.2 million while MEC of health in the province is a visible result of corruption under his leadership.

"We are also going to look at all legal options to make sure that this does go to court."
