DA: Govt should increase the publishing of reliable coronavirus data
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
The Democratic Alliance (DA) has welcomed the announcement by President Cyril Ramaphosa of the easing of the current COVID-19 lockdown measures from 1 May 2020.
However, the main opposition says the lifting of these restrictions should be accompanied by both a massive increase in testing, tracing and tracking, as well as the publishing of detailed reliable data.
DA’s Interim Leader John Steenhuisen reacted to the address by Ramaphosa to the nation on Thursday evening, in which he confirmed that the current Level 5 will be eased to Level 4 in a week’s time.
Steenhuisen adds the model adopted by the president is risk-adjusted, whereby restrictions are lifted as and when the data suggests it is safe.
“It is critical to protecting precious jobs and ensuring that the livelihood of millions of South Africans is saved. The DA has called for precisely this approach in our Smart Lockdown Plan, released ten days ago.
Steenhuisen added that going forward, it is important for government to increase the release of data in the battle against the virus.
