The DA filed an application with the High Court on Friday, where they sought to overturn a decision by Gauteng Premier David Makhura and Cooperative Governance MEC Lebogang Maile to appoint an administrator to run the city’s affairs.

"We are seeking an urgent review. We expect to be in an actual court hearing on Tuesday,” said DA provincial chair Mike Moriarty.

"You will have seen what has unfolded for the last two months and what my colleague Solly Msimanga has said what has been evident is that it has not been about processes and procedures and what the city has done. This has been about a power grab.”

Makhura and Maile moved to place the city under administration after council failed to sit since November last year.

The last council meeting which was scheduled to take place earlier this week collapsed when both the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and the African National Congress (ANC) did not pitch for the sitting.
