The Democratic Alliance (DA) Youth in Gauteng will picket outside the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) offices in Newtown on Friday.

The DA youth is aiming to highlight what it believes to be corruption and the lack of job creation by the youth agency.

DA Youth Chairperson in the province, Pogiso Mthimunye, says the NYDA is now a structure that serves as patronage for the African National Congress Youth League and the Youn Communist league.

'It has done very little with billions of rands that it has had over time, to support youth employment," says Mthimunye.

He highlights that its recent report illustrates that companies funded by the NYDA directly created only 4000 jobs.

"Which is jobs for 0.06 per cent for the youth in the country."

NYDA's CEO Mr Wassim Carrim has refuted claims that the agency is embroiled in corruption.

Carrim points out that the agency recently received a fourth successive clean audit report by the auditor-general.

"Which is a testament of the turn around the agency has actually undergone, its focus of good governance and stability," says Carrim.

Carrim adds in the last year, and the agency has funded about 900 news start-up companies in the country.
