DA: 'Personal commitments' led to Mbali Ntuli resignation
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
The DA has been rocked by another high-profile resignation following the decision by KwaZulu-Natal MPL Mbali Ntuli to leave the official opposition.
Ntuli resigned from the party and the legislature after 15 years of service.
She is the latest in a string of black politicians to leave the official opposition.
The party's provincial leader Francois Rodgers says they were informed of her resignation on Wednesday evening.
“I did in fact receive a resignation from Mbali and also a telephone call yesterday from her regarding her resignation and it is quite clear that she has started a family, she’s got personal commitments and that she just feels that she needs to start a new chapter in her life.
“She has contributed towards the DA and built the DA brand in various forms which we thank and respect her for and we wish her well in her new role as a mother and as an activist.”
Rodgers says Ntuli did not reveal her reasons for leaving the party.
“None at all, other than she feels she need some change, new challenges and a new direction in her life. She didn’t indicate if she was joining another political organisation.”
