Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
The Democratic Alliance (DA)
recently visited Etwatwa police station in Ekurhuleni and says it was appalled
by the attitudes of police officers.
The party’s Michele Clarke says the police officers were not helpful to the public.
Clarke says there is a serious deficiency in the South African Police Services' (SAPS) approach to dealing with the protection of women and children against all forms of abuse.

She says during her police station visit, she was forced to leave without recieving the neccessary help after waiting for hours, and being told that the police officer dealing with the registrars for domestic violence, rape and protection orders was on leave.
Clarke says this kind of behaviour is unacceptable and public service needs to improve in order for South African to successfully fight the scourge of gender-based violence.
Jacaranda FM News has been unable to to reach the national department's Community Safety spokesperson, Busapi Nxumalo.
