DA suspends councillor for alleged robbery
Updated | By Sinethemba Madolo
The Democratic Alliance (DA) has suspended one of its councillors after he was arrested for allegedly robbing a PEP store in Hillbrow.
DA Gauteng leader John Moodey said on Thursday the suspect must face the full might of the law.
It is alleged that PR Councillors in the Rand West City Local Municipality in Randfontein, along with two other suspects, are being charged with business robbery.
"As the DA we do not condone any criminal activity from any of our public representatives. Nobody is above the law. The police must do their work and if there's evidence enough to take him to court and to convict him then he has to face the music.
"As the DA we will not tolerate such behaviour. Pending the outcomes of this case then we will be pursuing our disciplinary processes."

Police spokesperson Musa Shihambe says the Hillbrow police were patrolling they saw a suspicious looking BMW.
Shihambhe says when they searched the vehicle they found six guns, ammunition, cell phones and cash.
"When they were busy searching people from PEP came and pointed them as the people who were robbing them. The councillor was the one driving the car and is the owner of the grey BMW."
