On voter registration weekend, the DA is urging voters not to split their vote.

Facing an onslaught from new parties, like Action SA, DA leader, John Steenhuisen says he is not convinced the newcomers will have a lasting impact.

"Every election we have a new party that springs up and people get very excited about it but the reality is that they don't do really do well at the polls," he says.

"Voters must realise that if they split the vote they are playing with fire and potentially could condemn themselves to another 5 years of ANC rule," he said.

Steenhuisen will be in the Western Cape for the voter registration weekend.

This while the ANC is focusing its efforts in Gauteng with party leader, Cyril Rmaaphosa, in Soweto to kick the weekend off.

EFF Julius Malema will be in KwaZulu-Natal on both days.
