DA vows to keep close eye on Ramaphosa's load shedding plan

The DA has lauded President Cyril Ramaphosa's plan to solve the energy crisis - but says it is long overdue.

Ramaphosa addressed the nation from the Union Buildings on Monday.
He outlined a list of short-term solutions to end load shedding, including increasing Eskom's budget for maintenance over the next 12 months.
The DA's Kevin Mileham says the party will be closely tracking and monitoring the intervention.
"We have been consistently calling for the opening up of the grid to IPPs through red tape reduction and increased private sector investment in the electricity sector.
"The DA will soon be launching an Energy Plan Implementation Tracker to keep Ramaphosa’s government honest on project implementation and red tape reduction milestones."
Mileham says they are concerned by the inclusion of Energy Minister Gwede Mantashe and Minister of Public Enterprises Pravin Gordhan in the plan.
"The tracker will particularly hold the president accountable for the commitments made to add new generation capacity. One area of concern in Ramaphosa’s energy plan is the formation of the so-called National Energy Crisis Committee.
"The DA will write to the Speaker of the National Assembly Nosiviwe Mapisa Nqakula, recommending the establishment of a parliamentary ad hoc committee to oversee NECOM."
