Lawyers representing the DA has written to the National Director of Public Prosecutions seeking conformation on whether President Jacob Zuma has made new representations to the National Prosecuting Authority.

The president was given until Thursday to submit documentation and explain why he should not face 783 charges of fraud, corruption, money laundering and racketeering.

The DA believes it is entitled to Zuma's arguments as an interested party.

Party spokesperson Portia Adams says NDPP Shaun Abrahams should make the documents available "in order for those interested parties to be given an opportunity to comment..."

The DA further says it needs to know if Zuma failed to make representations.

"Abrahams must advise on what steps have been taken to call President Zuma to his first court appearance".

Meanwhile, a senior team has been established to deal with the Zuma matter, the NPA announced on Thursday.

"We confirm the national director has appointed a team of prosecutors, led by the director of public prosecutions in KwaZulu-Natal, Moipone Noko, to consider the matter and make recommendations to him.

"As and when he deems it necessary to brief the South African public, he will do so," says NPA spokesperson Luvuyo Mfaku.
