DA wants SA diplomat fired over damage to state properties abroad
Updated | By Nokukhanya N Mntambo
The Democratic Alliance (DA) has called for South African diplomat David Nkosi to be axed for “dragging the country’s name through the mud”.

This comes after Nkosi allegedly caused more than R700 000 in damages to his apartment in Vienna, Austria.
In a written Parliamentary reply to the party, International Relations and Cooperation Minister Naledi Pandor revealed that Nkosi had also caused R53 000 in damage to an apartment in India.
It’s understood the South African government settled the bill for repairs.
DA MP Darren Bergman says the department should reclaim the cost of the damages from Nkosi.
“The Democratic Alliance is of the view that advocate Nkosi should face the highest sanction and that he should actually be fired, let alone asked to pay the money back for India and for Vienna,” says Bergman.
He adds the opposition is pushing for an amendment to the foreign services bill that would see diplomats abroad held personally liable for damages to properties they use.
Pandor confirmed in the written reply that a letter had been sent to Nkosi earlier this month, calling him to pay back the money from damages in India.
