DA welcomes disbandment of boards

The Democratic Alliance on Monday welcomed the disbandment of the Mpumalanga economic growth agency, and tourism and parks agency boards.

The party hoped premier David Mabuza and his colleagues would commit themselves to clean corporate governance free from political interference, provincial leader Willie Venter said in a statement.
Mabuza's office said at the weekend the boards were disbanded following a three-day executive council lekgotla.
The lekgotla said the boards of both agencies had failed to deliver on their mandates, spokesman Zibonele Mncwango said in a statement.
"The lekgotla has since disbanded both the boards, and has approved the process to initiate the appointment of new ones [and] ensure credibility."
Venter said African National Congress cadres were appointed to both agencies without having the required skills or knowledge.
The DA hoped the premier and his cabinet had learned from their mistakes and would appoint skilled individuals.
