DA will not cave in to ANC and EFF demands, vows Maimane

The Democratic Alliance (DA) says it stands squarely behind Tshwane Mayor Solly Msimanga ahead of Thursday’s motion of no confidence against him.
Msimanga will face two separate motions of no confidence, instituted by the African National Congress (ANC) and Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) respectively.
“Come tomorrow’s council meeting, we will not be fielding a different candidate. The caucus in Tshwane is resolute, the DA and Federal Executive is resolute on this matter. We stand united behind Solly Msimanga and we will not cave to the demands of the ANC and the EFF in their collaboration together in wanting to steal back the municipality,”DA leader Mmusi Maimane told a media briefing in Johannesburg on Wednesday.
Msimanga has already admitted that he would be ousted if both the ANC and EFF vote in favour of the motion.
The EFF has indicated that it would be willing to work with the DA in Tshwane but only if the mayoral candidate is not Msimanga.
The ANC has called for fresh elections in Tshwane and Johannesburg, saying that both cities are mired in corruption.
But Maimane believes the call for snap elections is nothing more than a political gimmick by the ANC.
“I think it’s a gimmick. If you have a need for fresh elections, why don’t we also ask Ekurhuleni for fresh elections? Is that because that is an ANC thing, there are also in a coalition there, why not fresh elections there?”
