The Department of Water and Sanitation says dam levels in Mpumalanga have risen by three percent, while Limpopo has only risen by 0.2%.
Last week saw showers in parts of the two provinces which resulted in flash floods in Xigalo, Limpopo.
The department's spokesperson, Sputnik Ratau says much more rain is needed for the dam levels to increase sufficiently.
"The dam levels In Mpumalanga have appreciated a bit, looking at the fact that they were on 45.5 percent in the last week while now they're on 48.1%. Whereas in Limpopo the levels have not appreciated as much they just moved from 44.4% to 44.6%," says Ratau.
The flagship Boshielo dam, which supplies water to the greater part of Limpopo, is still below 20%. The recent rain has moved dam levels up from 16.7% to 16.8%.
