This has been confirmed by the Department of Water and Sanitation which shows that dams levels have declined by less than 1%.

Spokesperson Wisane Mavasa says the decline can be attributed to less rainfall in major parts of the country.

"This normal at this time of the year, however provinces such as Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal as well as parts of Northern Cape are experiencing winter rainfall which has in certain areas resulted in localised flooding."

Meanwhile, six of the country's provinces have also recorded downward movements in water levels.
