Updated | By Princess Mahogo
The City of Tshwane completed repairs to the Njala substation after an incident of cable theft left vast swaths of the city without electricity since the early hours of Wednesday morning.

A City of Tshwane security guard was shot and killed during the incident.
The damage to the substation, which supplies Hatherley, Koedoespoort, Mamelodi 1, 2 and 3, Mooikloof, Wapadrand and Waltloo 1 substation, left large parts of the east without power.
“The City of Tshwane is ecstatic to announce that the major unplanned power outage that affected the Njala 132KV Substation was successfully resolved early this (Thursday) morning. The cost implications of theft and vandalism are yet to be quantified,” said spokesperson Lindela Mashigo.
The city also urged residents to “take ownership of municipal infrastructure in their communities and report acts of criminality and vandalism”.
