The roof of a house was blown off and trees uprooted during a storm in Soshanguve on Sunday.

This was confirmed by Tshwane Emergency Services spokesperson Charles Mabaso on Monday.
“The Tshwane Emergency Services received a call in Soshanguve Block L where a house’s roof was blown off. Upon arrival on scene our disaster management officers found a house whose roof had already been blown off.
“Community members had assisted the members of the family to cover the roof with a tent and the disaster management officers issued relief in terms of a plastic sheeting to help cover other parts of the house that were not covered.
“On the R80 near Transfer or Block L, trees were blown onto the road affecting R80 direction west and utility services were informed to clear the road.”

Nine family members were affected by the storm.
A police station near the R80 was also damaged by the strong winds, with the building’s roof was partially blown off.
“We also responded to the SAPS police station in Transfer near the R80 where part of the roof of the barracks was blown off and water had gotten in on the roof into the rooms of the members there,” adds Mabaso.
Police have since made arrangements for alternative accommodation for the affected residents.
