BREAKING: Danny Jordaan breaks silence over rape allegation
Updated | By Laila Majiet
Danny Jordaan has finally spoken out after being accused of rape.
The SAFA boss has issued a statement after being accused of rape by former ANC MP and singer Jennifer Ferguson.
Ferguson took to her blog a few weeks ago and wrote about her rape ordeal.
She named Jordaan as the man who violated her 24 years ago.
Jordaan has denied the allegations.
"Ms Ferguson has alleged that Dr Jordaan raped her 24 years ago. Dr Jordaan denies that he raped Ms Ferguson," his lawyer, Mamodupi Mohlala Mulaudzi, says in a statement.
"Dr Jordaan's perceived silence in the face of such serious allegations is because of his empathy with the victims of gender-based violence. Dr Jordaan has, however, after careful consideration decided to assert his innocence," he says.
The lawyer suggests Ferguson resolve the matter through the courts as opposed to through restorative justice as she has suggested.
Another woman has since come forward with similar allegations. She told Jacaranda FM in an exclusive interview that in 2004, she too found herself in a room with Jordaan. She alleges it was in his executive suite in a Sandton hotel in Johannesburg.
She said that she "counts herself lucky that she got away from a persistent Jordaan". The woman, whose identity has been withheld at her request, but who is known to Jacaranda FM, claims that Jordaan "made his intentions for that late afternoon very clear". Jordaan has not responded to repeated attempts by Jacaranda FM to obtain comment on this more recent allegation.
